Earlier this week Jamie Burdette and I attended a funeral at another church for a woman whose daughter and granddaughter are members of FBC. In the congregation that afternoon were leaders from the two different Sunday School classes the daughter and granddaughter attend at First Baptist.
Later in the week I was speaking with a new member of our church who has dealt with some very painful family events in recent years. She was telling me the Sunday School class she is part of at FBC is the absolute best she has ever been a part of during her adult life. She described how loved she feels and the compassion she has received from the class. She relocated to the area because of work, but told me she now believes God brought her here so she could be part of First Baptist Church. God is doing an amazing work in her life.
Then yesterday I received an email one of our members sent to everyone in their Sunday School class asking for urgent prayer for their grandson. I prayed and watched as members replied with promised prayer and ultimately saw those prayers answered.
Those three experiences from just this week illustrate the great ministry that happens in a good Sunday School class. They also remind us why it is so important to each of us to be connected to people in a Sunday School class or Connect Group.
If you don’t normally attend Sunday School, let me strongly encourage you to add an hour to your Sunday morning experience at FBC this week and go to Sunday School. Don’t just attend. Get involved. Invest the effort needed to become friends with others in the class.
Everyone needs to be part of a good Sunday School class and you need to do all you can to make your class a great one.

PS Jacqueline, Monieca and the rest of the family are now home in Italy and Jacqueline is healing from her surgery. Thank you for your continued prayers.

When we first visited FBC-RH, the church was in the old building on Main Street. We had parked our car in a public parking lot that was near Good Motor Company when they were on Main Street. We walked to a side entrance of the Church and was a few minutes late for Sunday school. We saw a couple of men talking in the hallway. I asked them, “could you direct us to a Sunday school class for couples. We want a good teacher.” They looked for a moment at each oter and one said to the other, “Let’s send them to Ole Fred’s class.” That proved to be a providential moment in my families life. We were blessed each Sunday by Fred’s true-to-life application of the Bible and we continued until Fred passed away. My wife has also passed away now but I continue with the same class body and there has developed a family like communion among the group and myself.
