Today has been a long but good day, and it’s not over yet. It started like most Sundays do for me…up at 5:00 am and drive to the church (after getting coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts – and “no” I did not get a donut – I was good this morning). Preached twice and then went to lunch with the family. A typical Sunday morning.
The afternoon has not been typical and God has given me two special moments that blessed me. First, I spoke at Jane Hickman’s funeral. I really didn’t preach her funeral, because her life did that. Jane and Bill, her husband of 68 years, served as missionaries in South America for nearly 40 years and have been members at FBC for more than 20 years. She was 88 when she went home Thursday. Now for the special moment…at the graveside, a woman from Paraguay where the Hickman’s served sang a song about heaven in their native language and the Holy Spirit touched all of us. We were reminded how beautiful heaven will be when all God’s children from every nation gather around the throne.
When I arrived back at the church to get ready for tonight’s Dinner with the Pastor, several people who had attended the La Red worship service were walking to their cars. As I walked toward my office, I spoke Pastor Enrique Ramirez and rejoiced that God had allowed us to be part of this ministry that is reaching the Hispanic population in this region. Again I was reminded how beautiful and diverse heaven will be. That reminder made my heart glad. I was blessed. By the way…check out La Red’s web site at http://www.iintlared.com.
There will be more blessings for me when I spend two hours this evening with about 20 guests wanting to know more about our church…but it’s already been a good day for me. I just wanted you to know that I’ve been blessed and I thank my Lord for it.
