Last night before going to bed I checked the latest weather forecast on the TV and my smart phone. When I got up at 5:00 am this morning, I did the same thing again. I’ve already emailed some of the staff about communication plans if we need to close the church office or cancel Wednesday night. (as of right now – Tuesday @ 6:43 am – everything is normal schedule). If and when it changes, we’ll get the word out via the usual platforms.
Wouldn’t you know it? Monieca just opened the door to go to work, when she turned back around, and said “You have to look outside; it’s snowing.” Now folks, this is about as real time a post as I’ll ever write on this blog.
I’ve read and seen reports about Atlanta, Charlotte, and Rock Hill anticipating the bad weather and making preparations to put salt, etc on the roads. That’s good – anticipation and preparation are good things.
I can’t help but wonder what would happen if those of us who love Jesus had a similar sense of urgency each week as Sunday grows closer. Years ago the Psalmist wrote, “I was glad when they said to me, ‘Let us go to the house of the Lord'” (Ps. 122:1).
I know snow is not the norm for us in SC, thus getting excited and anticipating what might happen makes sense. Worship is something we do all the time, so it’s easy to begin taking it for granted. It becomes familiar.
There is only so much worship leaders can do make worship new and different each week. Even so, it shouldn’t really be about “how good the show is” – should it? Shouldn’t worshiping the Creator of the universe be enough to fill us with anticipation? Shouldn’t worshiping our Savior be enough to make us eager to go to church? Shouldn’t the possibility of someone being saved be enough to motivate us to invite people?
What is your level of anticipation when it comes to worship? If it’s lacking, what are you going to do about it?

PS I got up early to check the weather and write a blog post. Will you get up early and make to church on time Sunday?
