The Great Debate
Predestination vs. Free Will

 Pastor's Bible Study for 2008

? Has God already determined everything that happens or did He give us freedom to make real choices?

? Did Jesus die for everyone or only those God had already chosen for salvation?

? Is salvation possible for everyone or only some and not others?

One school of thought known as Calvinism teaches that God exercises total control over the universe and has already determined every choice we make. Thus the choice only appears to be free. Predestination applies this teaching to salvation and it means that God chooses who will go to heaven and who will not. This would be the view of Presbyterians and others.

The other school of thought believes God has chosen to give people freedom to make choices that are truly free. He knows our choices, but He has not determined them. This includes the decision to believe in Jesus. This would be the view of most Baptists and others.

Each Wednesday night @ 6:30 p.m. in Worship Center
