I’m leading a Bible study and discussion on Wednesday nights this fall that has two purposes: 1) to learn all we can about Jesus and 2) learn how to read and study the Bible. We are looking at selected passages in the gospels where Jesus encounters people and asking one simple question – “What do we learn about Jesus in that story?”
We read the story and then discuss it verse by verse. The only study book is the Bible. The only preparation is to read the gospel passage. By doing this, we are seeing wonderful truths about Jesus. People are also learning how to slow down and notice what the text actually says.
I’d love for you join us. There is no catching up that needs to be done. Just show up and join the conversation. We meet at 6:30 – 7:30 pm in Room 210 each Wednesday night.
Last night we had a lot of discussion about Mark 1:32-45. Much of it centered on the realization that Jesus had very long and tiring day that ran late into the evening, yet the next morning He was up early, before dawn, so He could find a secluded place to pray. Even though He had an excuse to sleep in and rest, He chose to make time for prayer instead.
Each and every one of us can relate to Jesus’ busy day. We understand long days and lots of demands. Sometimes we sacrifice time with God because we’re tired or busy or both. Jesus’ example speaks to us. It challenges us. That is good!
Next Wednesday we will read and discuss John 1:45-2:12. Well, we’ll try to cover all those verses but the discussion may be so good we don’t make through all those verses. That’s ok – we’ll just pick up the following week where we left off. Join us and learn about Jesus. We’re having fun.
