You never know what God is going to use to make an impression on someone. I was reminded of that today during lunch.
Monieca and I enjoyed eating lunch with a woman who only recently started attending FBC. She has been in Rock Hill for a few years and regularly attended a couple of different churches, but decided she really wanted to be part of a church with a good Sunday School – because that is where you build relationships with other believers.
While we ate, we got to know one another a little better. Monieca and I were able to answer a few questions she had about FBC and at the end of lunch she indicated she wanted to join our church. So I had her complete a membership card and will introduce her to the congregation this coming Sunday morning during the 10:30 service.
Yet something she shared with us near end of our time together really caught my attention. She explained that what first impressed her about FBC and really touched her heart occurred three years ago. It was when Jeffrey Williams tragically died from carbon monoxide in a Boone, NC motel. His family was not members of FBC, but we hosted the funeral in our worship center to accommodate the large crowd that was expected.
I remember when we were asked if they could have the service in our worship center. It was an easy decision to make – a local family who were active members of a sister Baptist church needed our help. It took all of thirty seconds for us to say “yes.”
What we had no way of knowing at the time was that God would use that decision to touch someone who would later become part of our family of faith. I thought I would share this with you to encourage you and to celebrate the work that God is still doing in our church.
