Yesterday at church a friend told me had spent two hours searching for his keys – car, house, work. He said, “I never lose my keys.” Until yesterday that is. He was determined he was going to find them, so he searched and searched and searched – for two hours. Eventually he found them and today is can laugh about it.
Most of us have had similar experiences. If not our keys, it was our wallet, phone, an important piece of paper, etc. We’ve turned the house upside down, searched the pockets of outfits in our closet, looked under the seat in our car, etc. We just had to find it, so we searched. It was important to us, so we searched.
The Bible informs us that Jesus did the same thing. Luke 15 records the parables of the lost sheep and the lost coin in which the owners diligently search for the one lost sheep and one lost coin. They are pictures of God’s heart and Jesus search for us as He left heaven and came to earth to die on a cross for our redemption. They make it clear that heaven is excited and rejoices when one who is lost is found.
Each of us know people who are spiritually lost. Jesus longs for them to be spiritually found and saved. Do we?
Make it a priority this week to search for the people in your life who are lost by praying for them, serving them, and inviting them to attend worship with you this coming Sunday. They will hear a message about a person who was lost, but then was found. Sunday could be the day your friend or loved one is found and saved. Wouldn’t that be a great day!
