Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:
Reflective Reading: Read 1 Peter 3:12-15 thoughtfully:
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.” 13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? 14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” 15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
Meditation: Reflect on this encouragement by the apostle Peter, as he instructs the early followers of Christ (and remember that Jesus had specifically instructed Peter to strengthen believers, just before His arrest and trial). What is God speaking to you through this passage? What does Peter say we should always be prepared to do?
Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:
Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate this passage and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:
Are you ever fearful or anxious when you’re doing God’s work – witnessing, serving, teaching…How encouraged are you to know that Jesus always has His ‘eyes and ears’ attentive to you as a believer?
Have you ever been unprepared when someone asked you about Christ or spiritual questions? What can you do to ‘always be prepared to give an answer’?
What actions or attitudes might this passage be directing you to begin?
