Start the Day Strong

Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:

Reflective Reading: Read Psalm 143:8, 10 thoughtfully:

8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
   for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
   for to you I entrust my life.
10 Teach me to do your will,
   for you are my God;
may your good Spirit
   lead me on level ground.

Meditation: Reflect on this Psalm that expresses David’s desire to begin the day with a reminder of God’s love and for God’s guidance in the day. What is God speaking to you through David’s aspiration?

Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:

Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate these passages and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:

  • Does your day typically begin with dread for what might be ahead in the day, or with thanksgiving for what God has done in your life? How does an ‘attitude of gratitude’ help get the day off to a strong start?
  • Would your day sometimes take a different course if you began with a time of devotional reading, sharing with God, or a request for Him to be with you in the day?
  • Would you say that you have an active/serving belief in God – do you entrust Him with your life?
  • What actions might this passage be directing you to begin?
  • Reflect back on, or reread the week 2 devotions – has God spoken to you in any way regarding your spiritual development, bible study or hunger for His Word?  Has He spoken to you regarding the spiritual development of our children and youth here at First Baptist?
