The Power Source

Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:

Reflective Reading: Read Acts 1:8 thoughtfully:

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Meditation: Reflect on this record of Jesus’ directions to His followers just before His ascension, as He’s preparing them to carry on after His departure. What is God speaking to you through this exchange? Where does Jesus say the follower’s source of power will come from?

Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:

Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate this passage and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:

  • Do you think there is any significance in the fact that Jesus lists Jerusalem (where they were at the time) first in His list of witnessing locations?
  • Do you think there is any significance in the fact that Jesus lists every possible location on earth in His list of witnessing locations?
  • Have you ever viewed your vacation or business travel as a possible ‘foreign mission’ opportunity?
  • What (who) gives power to our witnessing activity?
  • What actions might this passage be directing you to begin?
