Thursday really was a beautiful day. Sunny and warm! I just had to get outside, so I spent some time on the deck outside my office working on Sunday’s sermon. Then Monieca brought some take out from Taco Bell and we enjoyed a meal listening to the sounds of nature. Again, it was a beautiful day.

What made it even better was that our email was not working all day at church. This frustrated some of the staff, but I remembered the days before email (I’m now older than most of the staff) and thought it was a nice change of pace. After all, what’s wrong with fewer interruptions and a more relaxed atmosphere for a day?

Our technologically driven world doesn’t encourage the solitude that God intended for each of us when He created the Sabbath, day and night, and the changing seasons. We need quiet moments…they help us hear God.

I try to build moments of quiet into my schedule. It’s not easy, but it is important. I intend to keep trying and I encourage you to give it a try. I’ve discovered that those quiet moments have a way of making my life more beautiful…and that is even better than a beautiful day.
