Thursday we visited two museums in Florence where we saw Michelangelo’s “David” sculpture and original paintings by Leonardo da Vinnci, Raphael, Botticelli, Michelangelo, and others. These works of art were a mixture of religious and nonreligious subjects, with some being inspirational and others offering no inspiration. All were the work of talented men.
Having now spent time at the Vatican and these museums learning more about the history of the church and past events I’ve studied for years, I have a greater appreciation for the Reformation and why it occurred. It was greatly needed and I’m thankful to the Lord for those who sacrificed much for the benefits we enjoy today.
Florence and Rome are very different cities. Rome is crowded and busy, while Florence is more laid back. If Rome is a place of history, Florence is a city of art, culture, and shopping. I also liked the food better in Florence.
Friday we visited the west coast of Italy, touring a few small towns perched on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Located in the Cinque Terre National Park, the views from these quaint villages is spectacular. We especially enjoyed riding a boat along the coast, after which we visited the towns.
Saturday we traveled by train from Florence to Venice, then caught another train to Sacile where Jacqueline and her family live. Liam and Evan met us at the train station and Liam was generous with his hugs. Evan and Monieca then headed to the hospital where Jacqueline was in labor. I stayed at the house with Liam and Evan’s father. Five hours later Lilianna was born at 9:57 PM.
All of us spent Sunday at the hospital on the Aviano Air Force Base, taking pictures and enjoying the blessing of a healthy little baby girl. Lilianna and Jacqueline came home today. Thursday we visited two museums in Florence.
I’ll share some photographs on a separate post on my blog, so keep checking.
Monieca and I am thankful for all the prayers and support we’ve received from our church family back in Rock Hill. We are enjoying ourselves and glad to be here with our daughter and her family, but we are also praying for you. I look forward to July 27 and worshipping with you.
