Whenever a family @ FBC has a new baby, they receive a gift from the church. What may surprise you is what that gift actually is. It’s a jar filled with stones (see photo below).

Here is how Holly Matthews, our Director of Preschool Ministry, describes it.

“When new babies are born into our church family, we want to recognize that special time with the new parents. Each new baby is given a jar with 936 stones to represent each week of their life until the age of 18. This is to serve as a visual reminder that a parents’ time of influence is limited and that sharing God’s Word should be an intentional part of this time. We want to make every minute count!”

This simple gift is one way our church encourages and challenges parents to make the most of the time God has given them. Removing one stone a week helps them remember that time is passing quickly.

Let me encourage you to take a moment and pray for these young parents. While you’re at it, pray for the parents who will be the NEXT ones to receive a gift of stones.
