Happy Independence Day!

For most Americans this is a paid holiday when we spend time with family celebrating in any number of ways. One third of us will fire up the grill so we can enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers or steak. Others will take to the lake, the beach or the pool. With the thermometer expected to hit the mid-nineties this July 4, I think I would prefer a celebration that involves cool water. What about you?

They didn’t have that problem on July 4, 1776. According to Thomas Jefferson’s weather journal, Philadelphia was experiencing an unusually mild summer in what is normally a hot and humid time of year in the city of brotherly love. The temperature at 1:00 PM on the day they approved the Declaration of Independence was a very pleasant 76 degrees.

Whatever you are doing this July 4, I pray it is a very pleasant day for you and your loved ones.
