DR. HUGH ROSS

Hugh Ross is a Canadian astrophysicist and Christian author who founded the apologetics ministry Reasons to Believe. He holds a Ph.D. in astronomy from the University of Toronto and a B.S. in physics from the University of British Columbia. Ross is known for his belief in old Earth creationism, which seeks to reconcile scientific discoveries with Christian faith, and has authored several books and articles on the subject.

TOPIC OF HUGH'S OCT. 12 MESSAGE
"AI & FAITH": Exponential advances in computer hardware and software have produced artificial intelligence (AI) systems that can analyze databases and write technical reviews millions of times faster than a team of human experts. AI’s greatest contributions arise when it is used to explore uncharted databases. However, AI systems cannot and never will be able to reason, generate independent data, or answer entirely new questions. AI is also prone to go off on spurious tangents. Recent experiments show that AI functions best when partnered with human experts who can guide its analysis of databases. The greatest efficiency occurs in a humans-first, AI-last strategy. I’ll show that AI can solve problems where it possesses all the relevant data, but it lacks cognitive abilities and has no mind or consciousness. AI’s proven limitations affirm the biblical concepts of human exceptionalism and creation in the image of God.

He's been a pastor, a professor (Purdue and Indiana Universities) of philosophy and comparative religions, and campus minister with Cru’s Faculty Commons ministry at Purdue before presiding over Ratio Christi.

Corey Miller's message on that day will be titled, "Is Christianity Good or Bad for the World?" We will also have 100 copies of his book, "The Progressive Miseducation of America", available on campus that day.
