This past week at First Baptist has been about kids. Let me explain:
First, thirteen young couples participated in parent-child dedication during yesterday’s two worship services. Each of them expressed in their own words the commitment to be Christian parents. They talked about praying for and with their children, about setting a godly example, about teaching their children how to live for Jesus…on and on the list could go. One of my favorite moments occurred when one couple had their daughter’s two “big brothers” read Bible verses as part of the dedication.
Second, Friday night was our OUTCAST BMX evangelistic event. I have to say it was a lot of fun watching those young men do amazing tricks on bicycles. The 300 or so people in attendance had a blast. After the gospel was presented, several children made spiritual decisions.
Finally, Sunday through Thursday night was ZAPPED. George Smith and the entire team did a great job and we had new kids every night. Again, when the gospel was presented dozens of children made spiritual decisions.
Combined about 100 children make spiritual decisions last week. Some were initial expressions of interest in knowing Jesus by young children, some were kids who have already accepted Jesus and been baptized confirming their faith, and many were genuine decisions by children to commit their lives to Jesus. There were a lot of kids from families who don’t attend church represented in those making decisions and we have a lot of follow up work to do in the days ahead.
While I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this brief account of this past week, I also hope you will take a moment and pray for these children. You may not know who they are, but God does and He will answer your prayers. Pray for the follow up work to be done with them and their parents. Just as importantly, take a moment to thank God for this past week and these important decisions.
