Some things are more valuable than money. I was reminded of that when reading about a recent burglary at a small Baptist church in Pennsylvania. The thieves stole some money that was earmarked for a needy college student and a football jersey that was being displayed as a tribute to the Pastor’s 18 year old son who had been killed in a single car accident while returning from an out-of-state football camp. The local standout player died after a three day battle for his life.

The jersey had been presented to the family at their son’s funeral by the coaching staff of Liberty University, where their son was planning to play football in the fall. It bore the number 98, the same number his dad wore when he played football at Liberty.

Words fail to describe the sense of loss I’m sure this father feels. An accident took his son and a thief took his son’s jersey.

But all was not lost, for on the day his son died angels took him to heaven.

It would be great if one day the jersey was returned to this Pastor dad. I hope it happens. What I know is that one day this Pastor dad will be reunited with his son. That’s what faith in Jesus does.

That makes faith more valuable than anything else this world offers. Please don’t allow your faith to suffer because you’re too busy chasing lesser things.
