It didn’t take long for me to realize that doing life my way was not going to lead me anywhere good.
During my senior year in college, I felt so empty. Despite living it up in fraternity life and becoming editor-in-chief of my college’s student newspaper, I felt alone and unfulfilled.
I had officially accepted Christ at church as a young boy, yet by age 23, I was still looking for a way to fill the emptiness. I thought alcohol was the answer. I fit in with people when I drank.
My roommate convinced me to participate in a weekly Bible study, and we hosted it in our dorm room. Our church’s college minister led the gatherings and prayed for us. This is when I learned that trying to manage my life on my own was not the answer. I got on my knees that semester and prayed for Jesus to truly enter my heart and guide me. From that moment, I never spent life alone.
More recently, after I got married and moved to Charlotte, I lost my job. We had a newborn baby to feed but my wife and I agreed to use my unemployment check to continue giving to the church. We had faith that God would provide. I believe that it was through that act of faithfulness and much prayer that God provided an opportunity for me to start my own business. It has since flourished and provided for my family.
I believe God’s message is: Call out my name and I will answer. He is truly a living God. Whenever I need guidance in my life, I turn to Jesus and He always answers my prayers.
