I don't remember the church being a very important part of my family life when I was a child. I do remember Easter and Christmas being a big deal. When we did attend church I learned a little about Jesus but not enough to understand who He was. Sometimes my grandmother read the Bible to me and I heard Bible stories in school.
In my early teens a friend invited me to youth meetings where I heard how Jesus suffered and died so my sins could be forgiven. Knowing He did this for me broke my heart and made me realize how much I needed to ask for His forgiveness. I asked Jesus to be my Savior at one of those meetings.
Over the years I believe Jesus has been faithful to put other Christians in my life to help me grow in my relationship with Him. My late husband helped me learn how to study the Bible and apply what I learned to my life. Others taught me the importance of prayer and how talking to Jesus can open my heart and mind to what He wants me to know.
The Bible is very important to me and I often use verses as I pray. One of my favorite passages is Psalm 23. Verse one says, “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want”. This one little verse tells me Jesus is my Shepherd and I am one of His creatures. When I trust in Him completely just like sheep trust their shepherd, He is all that I need: my protector, my guide, my provider, my Savior.
I can’t imagine life without Jesus. I am glad I gave my life to Him and I am glad He is my Savior.
