I grew up in a small Baptist church where my parents were some of the original members. I prayed and committed my life to Jesus when I was in second grade and was consistently in church every Sunday as a young girl. Then when I was a teenager, I had a negative experience with this small church and started to slowly drift away from the church.
It was during the fall of my freshman year at college that I met my husband. What originally attracted me to him is that he went to a Christian ministry on campus on Thursday evenings without any of his friends. I knew there was something different about him and it drove me to want to get to know him better. He encouraged me to grow in my faith and we started attending a church together in our small college town. It was a new experience for me to go to a church where people were taking their faith seriously and putting a lot of effort in to spiritual growth and being intentional about their relationship with God. We attended a couples Bible study together and grew through that experience.
After college we settled in Rock Hill where I joined FBC. The young married couple’s classes have helped us to continue this growth pattern. We have been married for five years, have overcome the sadness of a miscarriage, and now have a beautiful baby girl.
My story is one of perseverance. I’ve moved beyond the hurt of that negative experience in my teens and am now growing. Through our church I’m developing strong spiritual friendships and a stronger relationship with my husband and God on a daily basis.
