As a child, I didn’t grow up in church. When visiting my grandfather, I attended here and there. Being raised by a single mother of three who worked a lot, unfortunately spirituality and going to church was not a priority.
At the age of 12, I was first introduced to Christ at a neighborhood Vacation Bible School, where I received my first bible, and learned my first bible verse, John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” This verse has remained with me throughout my life.
Years later, at the age of 16, I attended a revival service with my Godmother where I accepted Christ. During my high school years, I continued attending church regularly and I was also baptized. While in college, I didn’t attend church as often, but I always remained connected to Christ by attending bible studies and singing on my college gospel choir.
As an adult, there were times that I often felt alone and didn’t have anyone to rely on. That’s when I realized how much I really needed Christ. I became heavily involved in church again. I now understand that Christ has changed my life in so many ways. I think about pleasing God with the decisions that I make. Trusting and believing in God has allowed me to meet my husband and stepson and continue to grow our family. We attend church faithfully, and we continue to grow closer as a family because our love for Christ allows us to truly love one another, as well as others.
