I was raised in an unchurched home. I was taught to pray after meals and at bedtime, but that was the extent of it. My family never read the Bible, prayed together, or depended on God for anything. Because of a Godly grandmother and my friends’ parents, I did get to attend church at different times throughout my life. I always felt like something was missing in my life. When I was 10 years old, I remember vividly a time when I was hopelessly thinking, “Is this all there is to life?”
When I was 12 years old, I went to church with a friend of mine for about a year. Her parents picked me up every Sunday. One Sunday night at church, a visiting choir from a nearby Christian college came to sing. After the program, I talked with a young woman that was from the college and she asked if I wanted a relationship with Christ. We prayed together and this is when I trusted Jesus as my Savior. I was overwhelmed with joy to know that God loved me. I got baptized at a later time.
Today, I cannot imagine my life without Christ. Now, I read my Bible and pray to God daily. A favorite verse of mine is “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23. I still have the joy that I experienced when I first came to know Christ. He fills a need in my life that cannot be replaced by anything or anyone
