In my young life it was my mission to be good and make the honor roll in school. The only problem was kids disliked me, because I didn’t act normal. By the time I was 13 I felt helpless, because the world had failed me.
At 14 I was invited to a youth event and heard an evangelist speak. He me told what was missing in my life was Jesus. I looked around me and saw so many people who were happy and had something I did not. I prayed to God that night that I might have what the evangelist spoke about and what these people around me had. It was at that point that I felt the Holy Spirit and knew my life had changed.
As a young adult, I walked in faith and made friends. I met my wife in church and together we had a daughter.
Life got hard when I learned my niece had been molested by her father and suffered from PTSD. Her mother didn’t believe her and the family felt it was best for her and her brother to come live with us. So my wife and I took them in. This was not easy, because my niece struggled and my nephew was special ed. We did our best to help them. In the end they both left to live with their grandparents. I wish it could have gone better, but my niece’s behavioral issues were beyond us and she became pregnant.
What I have learned from all of this is no matter how much you give to someone and love on them, true change can only occur through Jesus. The same thing that changed my life is the only thing that can change somebody else.
