We usually attend a worship service when we’re on vacation and this past weekend was not different. We were staying at North Myrtle Beach and decided to attend Barefoot Church. This is a young church that started 10 years ago with 12 people meeting in a living room and today has nearly 2,000 people attending each weekend. Even though they have three services on Sunday morning, we decided to attend their 6pm Saturday evening service.

It had rained off and on all day Saturday and sure enough, as we opened to door to walk to the van the rain started again. But we pushed ahead. When we pulled into the parking lot, volunteers were directing traffic and helping people park. One man with an umbrella protected Monieca from the rain as she got Liam out of his car seat and then walked with us all the way to children’s area. That’s when we noticed Liam was having a reaction to something.

Instead of going to church, we went to Walgreens for Benadryl and ointment. It worked and Liam improved quickly.

But our plans to get to the beach early Sunday morning had now been disrupted. So we adjusted our plans and attended the middle service (10:00 am) at Barefoot Church on Sunday. It was a blessing and God spoke to my heart. Liam had fun as well!

Life, and sometimes Satan, will put challenges in front of us to keep us from worshiping Jesus. What matters is not the challenge, but the response. Sometimes we have to keep trying. If at first you don’t succeed, try try again. You will always be glad you did.

PS Barefoot Church did a really good job making guests feel wanted and welcome. That made it even easier for us to decide to go back on Sunday morning.
