Read Jesus’ parable about the Prodigal Son in Luke 15:11-32

Focus your thoughts on the young son who left home and wasted his inheritance.

Having read this parable and reflected on the actions of the younger son, what is God saying to you?

Answer these questions:

  • We are not told how long the younger son was gone from home. What we do is know is that he wasted his inheritance on sinful living. But money is not the only thing he wasted. What else can you think of that he wasted?
    • What about the time (months or years) he was gone from home?
    • What about the memories he could have been creating with his family while he was gone?
    • What about the opportunity to use his resources (money, talents, etc) in a positive way?
  • Have you ever wasted any of these? Are you wasting any of them now?
  • What are you missing out on because you’re wasting one or more of these things? How do you feel about it?

After answering these questions, write or verbalize a personal prayer to God.

Praying for our church:
We are seeking God’s wisdom for dealing with five specific challenges our church is facing.
Today please pray for God’s wisdom in dealing with the following challenge:

  • How do we facilitate the service of our members in a way that is efficient and focused on the priorities that will have the most impact for the cause of Christ?
