Easter is coming up fast, and if you’re like me, it probably feels like January 1 was just yesterday! You might be rushing around hunting for the perfect basket stuffers for your kids’ Easter baskets, tackling Spring Cleaning before hosting everyone for Easter lunch, or just trying to hang on until Easter and Spring Break arrive. No matter where you’re at, I’ve got 5 simple and budget-friendly ways to share the Easter experience with your kids. Your family can try one or all of these over the next week to get ready for Easter Sunday!

Maybe you have cherished Easter family traditions that you’ve done for the past 15 years, or maybe, like us, you’re navigating the challenges of moving and raising a young child, fighting to weave the Gospel into the busyness and chaos of daily life. As Easter approaches, I want to challenge you to carve out intentional time to sit down with your children and discuss the Gospel and the true significance of Easter. While Easter baskets, egg dyeing, and egg hunts are wonderful traditions, they aren’t inherently wrong—but if our celebration stops there, with just a brief church visit for photos, we risk depriving our children of the deeper, transformative meaning of Easter. Instead, let’s prioritize sharing the heart of the Gospel story with them during this sacred season. No matter how young they may be, don’t underestimate the power of doing something to celebrate the Resurrection.

Below, you’ll find a list of different activities and resources that you can do with your family to strike up conversations and questions about the Gospel and Easter. I pray this helps you and your children celebrate the Resurrection during this season.

1. Resurrection Rolls

2. Resurrection Eggs

3. Egg a friend’s yard

4. Create an Easter Garden

5. Family Movie Night

Invite people to Easter Sunday services.

Waiter or waitress at restaurant, neighbors, coworkers, friends.

Barna Research has reported a significant increase in online searches for “church” around Easter. This tells us that during this season, church and faith are on people’s minds. We must seize this opportunity to extend invitations and create space for them to respond to the Gospel.
