While watching the “Space Buddies” movie (picture below) the other night – Oh, you haven’t seen it. Well, it’s about these rambunctious pups who’ve stared in a few movies. They talk to each other and get into all kinds of trouble. In this movie they “accidentally” end up on a space shuttle and take a trip to the moon.
Now back to the other night. I’m watching the movie with Liam, my three year old grandson. He’s sitting in my lap and at one point holding my hand. I thought, “Life doesn’t get much better than this.” Monieca was running on the treadmill and saw him. She smiled and had similar thoughts.
That brief moment captured what makes life special – relationships. When we get them right, life is beautiful. When we get them wrong, life is painful.
Unfortunately a lot of us never learn that the quality of our relationship with God is the one that ultimately makes life more special than we ever imagined. Get our relationship with God wrong, and life becomes less than it could be. Yet we often put so much effort into so many things, while giving God only what is left over.
When was the last time you had a moment with the Heavenly Father when you felt as close to Him as I did to Liam the other night? What are you doing to cultivate such a relationship with Him?
I hope you’ll join us Sunday at FBC as we begin a new study of Psalm 119 called “Thy Word”. Psalm 119 was written by a man who wanted to be very close to God and sought Him with all his heart. We’re going to learn from his words some lessons about the role the Bible can play in our being very, very close to our Heavenly Father. I’m looking forward to the journey and really hope you travel it with me. See you Sunday.
