Whoppers. Butterfinger. Baby Ruth. Those are some of the candies Monieca purchased for tonight’s Trunk or Treat @ the church. We’ll be there like we are every year, ready to meet hundreds of kids and their parents as we give out candy. It’s a blast and I really look forward to it.
But that candy is tempting.
For years, Monieca gave me a large box of Whoppers at Christmas. I love Whoppers and she knows it. Now there is a whole bag of them just staring at me…tempting me. This holiday may be for kids, but it sure is tough on adults who’ve chosen to lose weight.
Now that I think about it, life is sort of like that. Filled with things that taste good but when abused hurt us. They seem to always be in front of us, tempting us to lose control. Sex. Money. Fun. Food. TV. I could go on but you get the idea.
I’m going to put the candy in a place I can’t see it. Hopefully out of sight will be out of mind. Maybe you should consider doing the same thing with whatever “candy” is tempting you. You don’t want it to eventually hurt you or your loved ones. Put it out of sight. Or as the Bible says, “Flee youthful lusts” (II Timothy 2:22 KJV).
