August 26, 2014 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

One of my favorite experiences each year at FBC is when we ordain new deacons. During a special worship service last night Brad Hughes and David Gardner were ordained and it was a meaningful time of worship for me. There is something special about men being set aside for ministry as Jesus’ servants.

We do something unique at FBC during these ordination services. The wives of the men being ordained are involved in the ordination. While the new deacons are being ordained, their wives stand near them. This allows ordained ministers and deacons participating in the ordination, along with their wives, to speak a word of encouragement and pray with them. I’ve seen wives pray, cry, laugh, and hug. It always blesses me.

One of those moments last night that blessed me was when I saw Kathy Goolsby praying with Jennifer Hughes. Each year there is one or more scenes that God uses to grab my heart and last night that was one of those scenes. It made me glad to not only be there but to be part of this church family called First Baptist Church.

Below are some photographs from last night for you to enjoy.
