Earlier today I stopped at Wendy’s for lunch on my way to PMC to make hospital visits, intending to put gas in my car as soon as finished lunch. While eating I read a couple of news stories via my iPhone and then spoke to some people on my way out of the restaurant. After a quick stop at the rest room I got in my car and headed toward the hospital.
Fortunately I noticed on my instrument panel the words “low fuel” and a quick glance at my gas gauge confirmed the situation. I’d gotten distracted and forgotten that the car needed gas. In fact it was desperate for gas. I found the closest gas station and “filled her up” before the tank reached “empty.”
We need spiritual gas as believers and we get that gas from spending time with our Lord through prayer and Bible reading. The challenge is that we are often distracted by all the busy stuff of life and never get around to filling our spiritual tank. Life just keeps coming at us and Bible reading and prayer keep getting forgotten, ignored, put off, etc. You get the point!
Some of us catch the problem before we hit empty. Unfortunately others of us run completely out of spiritual gas before we do anything about it.
Since Christmas is a busy time for all of us, I thought I’d remind all of us (myself included) to be intentional about keeping our spiritual tanks full. After all it wouldn’t be much a true Christian celebration of Christmas if we never made any time to be with the Jesus whose birth this holiday actually commemorates.
So take some time today and each day this month to “fill up.” You’ll be glad you did!
See you Sunday @ FBC and Merry Christmas,
Pastor Steve Hogg
