No Excuses in My Relationship with God

Read Exodus 3: 7-11

But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh
and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?”
(Exodus 3:11)

We all have excuses that we use for not following God. “I’m too busy.” “I can’t afford it financially.” “I have too many responsibilities at home or at work.” But the one that we probably use the most is the one that Moses used in response to God’s call at the burning bush. “Who am I?”

Moses felt inadequate to be God’s spokesperson to one of the most powerful men in the world – the Pharaoh. Most of us feel inadequately equipped to be God’s spokesperson to our co-worker, our family member, our neighbor. We can hear the echo of our failures when God’s voice comes to us telling us to go. We can list the reasons that we aren’t the right person. “I’m not a good speaker.” “What if I say the wrong thing?” “I could ruin a relationship.” Or we can think of someone else who we think is better prepared, more eloquent, less like me who God can use.

But when God calls us to go, He has a reason for the call. He wants to involve us in His eternal, global plan of spreading the gospel. The most important promise to remember is found in verse 12 immediately after Moses offers his first excuse. God promises Moses that “I will be with you.” The greatest promise is not that we will succeed. The greatest promise is that when we go, God is with us.

The No Excuses Challenge for today is to be honest with yourself and admit which excuses you are using to avoid following God’s call. Make a list and pray about each excuse.
