God has a wonderful way of surprising us when we fast. He reveals things to us that we didn’t expect. He changes us. He purifies our motives.
One man’s story illustrates this truth:
“A certain man began fasting when his runaway daughter had not called home for days. He later realized that, at first, he had fasted to earn his daughter’s return by showing God how serious and spiritual he was. But gradually the practice of fasting led him to weep and mourn for the agony his prodigal daughter felt. His shame at having a runaway child melted. God gave him a heart for her, so that when she did return their reconciliation was genuine.” (Simplicity & Fasting by Jan Johnson)
If we continue with our FIVE WEEK CHALLENGE and don’t give up along the way, God will do wonderful things in our lives. I’m looking forward to what God teaches me as I fast once a week during this five week challenge. I’m also looking forward to hearing about God’s work in your life as well.

We started out with a TV fast that turned out to be more than just 1 day. During the time where we would normally watch different TV programs, we used the TV time to research what Scripture has to say about prayer and how vital it is. It is a great topic to study over the next 5 weeks or more.
