Read the following Bible verse several times:
Matthew 27:45-46
“Now from the sixth hour (noon) darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour (3:00 pm). About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘ELI, EIL, LAMA SABACHTHANI?’ that is, ‘MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?’”
Having read this verse several times, what is God saying to you?

Answer these questions:
- During three hours of darkness as Jesus hang on the cross, He felt such isolation from His Heavenly Father that He cried out loud “why have You forsaken Me?” Wow! Since Jesus is the Eternal One who had never been separated from fellowship with the Father, how extreme must His suffering have been for Him to utter such words?
- During those three hours of darkness, our sin (mine and yours) was placed on Jesus. He became sin for us. That sin is the reason He was separated from fellowship with the Father. How does it make you feel to know that your sin broke Jesus eternal fellowship with His Father for those three hours?
- Is there sin in your life right now that you need to confess and turn from?
After answering these questions, write or verbalize a personal prayer to God.
