I imagine many of you who read this blog have probably already heard that I had a heart catheterization Tuesday morning. Good news is that my heart is fine…no blockages. The chest pains and other symptoms that led to the procedure are the result of something else. We’re not sure what that something else is yet, maybe really bad acid reflux or something else. Taking meds and looking at other possible causes.
More people were praying for me than I can possibly know, but I do want to say “thank you” to each one who prayed. Thanks also to staff for their support. We’ve got a great team at FBC.
I’m 54, the age my dad was when he died from cancer. That number has always stuck in the back of my mind. So I started having certain preventive procedures performed earlier than most (like colonoscopy). I found they gave me some level of peace. This heart cath has done the same. It feels good to know my heart is in good shape.
But I remember the moment that morning when suddenly I was aware of something…like a thought that just came to me. What I realized was that I wasn’t worried. I was at peace. Many of you have experienced the same thing at different moments in your life. You can’t fake it and you can’t create it when in a bind. You either have it or you don’t. It comes from Jesus and nowhere else. I guess I’m saying we who are believers should celebrate the peace that only comes from our Lord. He promised to give it to us and He keeps His promise. If we have his peace in the good times, we discover that we also have it in the scary ones.
One more thought: it helps to have a great wife and I’ve got the absolute best. I’m taking the rest of the week off to rest and hang out with her.
