Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:
Reflective Reading: Read 1 Peter 2:1-3 thoughtfully:
1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Meditation: Reflect on Peter, whom Jesus called ‘the Rock’, as he encourages Christians to crave spiritual milk (God’s Word). What is God speaking to you through this exchange?
Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:
Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate this passage and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:
- What would you say your ‘hunger level’ is for God’s Word?
- Do you have a healthy ‘diet’ of God’s Word – or do you periodically have spells of abstinence?
- It’s easy to understand that children have to have a healthy diet to properly mature physically – do these same principals apply to spiritual maturity?
- What actions or attitudes might this passage be directing you to begin?
