Last night six of us went to dinner and a comedy show featuring Christian comedian Aaron Wilburn and it was a blast. He’s really funny (you can easily find him with a Google search) and had us laughing for about 90 minutes. I loved his bit about a redneck GPS. He also incorporated funny songs into his routine, like the one that begins with these lines:

“You ask me if I love you
and if my love is true.
Well if I was a rich man,
here is what I’d do.
I’d buy you a diamond ring
and a new fur coat or two.
If my nose was running money,
I’d blow it all on you.”

So much that passes for comedy today is vulgar. In fact it’s not easy to find a comedian whose routine is not embarrassing. That’s one reason last night was so refreshing. It was both funny and clean.

I laugh at the notion that Christians can’t have fun. The truth is we do have fun and we don’t have to be ashamed of what we did or where we went to have it.

My heart breaks at the thought of some who profess Christ as Savior that haven’t learned to have fun without getting in the gutter with the rest of the world. Jesus saved us to a better way of living. It doesn’t make us better than anyone else. It simply is a better way of living. Laughter is God’s gift and those who truly love the Lord know how to laugh the loudest.
