No Excuses in My Relationship with God

Read Exodus 2:11-15

But Moses fled from Pharaoh and stayed in the land of Midian.
(Exodus 2:15, ESV)

Even though Moses was Hebrew, he grew up in the household of Pharaoh. He enjoyed the privileges that came with that life – education, training, servants, food, and luxury. Just about anything Moses wanted was available to him growing up. It would seem that if God’s ultimate purpose for Moses was to lead the Hebrews out of captivity in Egypt and to the Promised Land, Moses was in a perfect position. He had access to Pharaoh and other Egyptian leaders. He had the education that would allow him to voice his position. He would have a better reputation than anyone the Hebrew people could put forth.

Yet, God did not choose to use Moses from his position as a member of Pharaoh’s household. In fact, when Moses fled Egypt, he was being pursued as a murderer. He lost his position, his authority, and whatever standing he had with Pharaoh. He lost his wealth, his access to power, his prestige, everything. It was only at this point that God was ready to use him to lead the Hebrew people out of slavery.

Moses needed to lose everything in order to be used by God. For us to be used by God, we have to be prepared to give up everything in order to follow Jesus. Jesus said as much in Matthew 16:24. What are you holding on to that is keeping you from following Christ fully?

 

No Excuses Challenge

The No Excuses Challenge for today is to ask God to reveal what is keeping you from fully trusting in Him. Start by making a list of things you would struggle to give up if God asked you to abandon them. Reflect on ways each of those things may be more important to you than Jesus. Finally, pray a prayer of surrender, giving each item to Jesus and asking Him to help you trust Him more.
