Liam’s coming…and I can’t wait for him to get here.
I’m talking about my grandson, Liam. He’s coming for a visit tonight. After spending his first 22 months living with us, he now lives four hours away. It’s only been ten days since he moved with his mom and her new husband, but I sure have missed him.
Separations are part of life. Kids grow up and move away. I did! I still remember watching my mom in the rear view mirror as Monieca and I drove away from our house in Kentucky to start our life in South Carolina. She stood in our driveway crying.
People die. My dad did! He was the same age I am now…just 54…when cancer took him. I think about him every time I listen to bluegrass music. One of the last things we did together before he died was attend an outdoor Bill Monroe concert. We sat on a nearby hill and listened.
For believers in Jesus separations don’t have to be forever. Jesus said if we believe in Him we’ll have eternal life instead of perishing. That is great news.
My dad accepted Christ as his Savior six months before he died, so I’ll see him again. That day will be even more exciting than seeing Liam tonight.
This good news about separations not being forever because of Jesus is something everyone needs to hear…because everyone experiences the pain of separations.
Let me ask you something. If we who are Christians really care about the people in our community, why do we keep this good news to ourselves? Why do our churches often make evangelism the last thing we do instead of making it the main thing we do?
Liam has a beautiful smile and seeing it tonight will bring a smile to my face. Seeing people in this city come to faith in Jesus will bring a smile to our Lord’s face.
Maybe it’s time you and I started telling more people about this good news.
