One morning this week I met several of our staff for breakfast at Cracker Barrel and I was faced with the choice of what to order. Was I going to be “good” or was I going to be “bad.” Yes, there are some lower calorie items on the Cracker Barrel menu. But there are a lot more really “bad” items that taste soooooooooo good.

Below is a photograph from that breakfast. The food on the left is mine: egg beaters, fruit, turkey bacon – 340 calories. The food on the right was ordered by one of our staff members, who shall remain nameless – but he works with our youth: real eggs, gravy, biscuits, real bacon and sausage – only God knows how many calories. To be fair, he shared the gravy with others and only ate one biscuit.

When trying to lose weight we face the dilemma of needing to make good choices each time we eat. The temptation to make bad choices is always present.

I made a “good” choice that morning. Today at lunch I made a “not good” but “not too bad” choice. If I make more good choices than bad ones, then I’ll lose weight. So far I’m doing OK. I’m praying for those of you who are trying to lose weight. I pray you make good choices, because I want you to enjoy the reward that comes with losing weight and being in better shape.

So the next time you go to Cracker Barrel, say “no” to the gravy and “yes” to the fruit. It’s a choice!
