While we were in Kentucky last week I tried a new recipe from a cookbook I recently purchased. If everyone was telling the truth, it was pretty good. The recipe was for “Mexican Meat Loaf.” I like meat loaf, but I also like the idea of changing it up a bit. Why not try something new.
When Monieca and I eat out, often I know what she’ll eat based on which restaurant we choose. I like to try food I’ve not eaten before, so there are only a few restaurants where I order the same thing each time. My motto is, “I’ve not eaten that before. I think I’ll try it.” Sometimes that works out really well. Other times, not so much.
Now back to the Mexican Meat Loaf. Every now and then it is a good idea to spice things up a bit. For instance…marriage. Monotony can kill a marriage. We begin taking each other for granted, stop dating, no longer surprise each other with gifts or acts of kindness, don’t have fun together, or never go on vacation without the kids. I could continue, but you get the picture. Putting a little spice into one’s marriage is a good thing.
What about your relationship with the Lord. It’s easy to become lukewarm and not pay attention to the fact that our quiet time has become stale or inconsistent. That’s why I like the idea of periodic spiritual retreats, listening to sermons by well-known preachers, reading a book, or attending worship when I’m on vacation. God often uses those things to spur me into renewal and growth. Adding something to my normal routine often helps me spiritually.
I liked the Mexican Meat Loaf so much that I’m going to change how make my normal meat loaf by adding some of what I learned from the experience. That way, when I have meat loaf in the future it will be even better than it’s been in the past.
Is there anything in your life that could use a little spicing up?
