June 3, 2016 By Steve Hogg Leave a Comment

I began last Sunday’s sermon talking about some flowers I had given to Monieca.  It wasn’t a special occasion, I just wanted to say “I love you”  and “I’m thinking about you.”  So while buying groceries at BiLo I picked up some flowers.  The point I was making in the sermon was that during the normal course of life we have to make choices to keep romance alive in marriage, just as we have to make intentional choices to do the things necessary to keep our love for Jesus growing.

It has now been a week since I purchased those flowers and they still look good.  In fact more of the blooms have opened and they look even better today.

That’s the thing about doing things to deepen love.  It just makes love stronger and more beautiful as the days pass.  It’s the principle of cause and effect we talked about during the recent “Future Family” sermon series.

Here’s the kicker.  Cause and Effect is both a positive and negative principle.  Do positive things and you’ll get positive results.  Do negative things and you’ll get negative results.  That goes for what you do in your marriage and in your relationship with Jesus.  You will definitely get out of both what you put into them.

So if you want the flowers to keep blooming beautifully in your marriage, do something positive for your spouse today.  If you want your walk with Jesus to keep growing, spend some time with Him today and listen to what He says.  Don’t do all the talking.  LISTEN to Him.  While you’re at it, OBEY what He tells you.  As the old hymn says: “There’s no other way to be happy.”

Here’s the lyrics to “Trust and Obey”.  Read and be blessed.

Pastor Steve Hogg

“When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word
What a glory He sheds on our way
While we do His good will
He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey
But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor He shows
For the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
Trust and obey
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus
But to trust and obey
Lord, I love You
Please help me to trust and obey
Lord, I love You
Please help me to trust and obey
Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way
What He says we will do
Where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey”
