An observation, question, and comment:
The observation – a couple expressing their love for each other. Last week Monieca and I ate a late breakfast/early lunch at a Waffle House in NC. Through the window I saw a middle aged couple in the parking lot kiss then get into separate vehicles to go different places. I thought, “That’s sweet!” I wish more couples would be so proud of their love for each other that they are not afraid to show it. I wish fewer couples would tell jokes in public at the expense of their spouse. Love is to be cherished and nurtured. Perhaps more marriages would be happy and last if the couples acted more like that couple in the Waffle House parking lot.
The question – what does a preacher look like? I ate lunch at a local restaurant earlier this week and talked to the waitress several times as I often do. As I was leaving she asked me, “Are you a preacher? You just have that look about you.” Occasionally I get comments like that and it always makes me wonder if preachers have “a look” and if so, what is it? I really don’t know the answer to that question. What I do know is that each of us who are followers of Jesus Christ is to increasingly look more and more like Him. If we all did that…WOW!
The comment – the first time I ever attended church it was because someone invited me. I’m not sure I would have ever gone to church otherwise. Most unchurched people attend church the first time for the same reason I did…someone invites them. Who are you inviting to attend worship with you this Sunday? I look forward to meeting them.
Finally, it will be good to be back in the pulpit at FBC this Sunday morning. We kick off a new series titled “Our Hope.”
