Read Genesis 12:7 and Hebrews 11:8

When God called Abraham to leave his country, his people and his father’s house behind, he was 75 years old. He was a man who had a wife, possessions, a trade. He had created a life for himself. Certainly, Abraham had a daily routine and a way of life in which he found comfort and security. Yet when God called him to go, he packed everything up and followed the call.

Going must have been a difficult decision. He didn’t know where he was going, how long the journey would be or what waited for him when he arrived. He was leaving a place where there was certainty to go to a place of unknowns. Abraham went because he had faith in God. He knew that only in following God’s call could he experience the abundant life that is promised to those who forsake all and follow Him.

God may not be calling you to pack everything up and move. But He is calling you to follow Him each day. And each day brings with it a new challenge to follow where He leads. He may lead you to a neighbor or co-worker who is hurt and struggling. He may lead you to a stranger who needs to hear about the love of Christ. He may lead you to give financially to others who are taking the gospel around the world. He may lead you to take a stand for righteousness at your workplace or among your friends.

Following Christ may not lead to the type of change that Abraham encountered. But there will be countless changes in our lives, our priorities, our giving, our serving, and our going when we follow Christ day-to-day. Those changes will probably make us uncomfortable and make us feel insecure. Some of those changes will be small; some will be big; and some will be the huge change that Abraham experienced. But all of them will lead to life when we are following God’s call.

• Write down five things in your life that you have changed because you followed the call of Christ in your life.
• Write down one thing that you feel that God is calling you to do that will cause changes to take place in your life.
• Thank God for how He has blessed you in the changes you have already made. Ask Him to give you strength and wisdom as you make changes in your life.
