It’s warm here in east Tennessee and the water on Cherokee Lake is calm. The setting is relaxing and beautiful. That’s the way I like it when I’m on a study retreat. The quiet calm of nature with few distractions.
It allows me to focus on God’s Word and prayerfully listen to the Holy Spirit as I seek His guidance for what to preach. This week I’m working on sermon ideas for this coming winter and Easter. I’ve spent the past few days reading the gospels and the Holy Spirit has given me direction for several sermons.
Retreating so I can read scripture without interruption for an extended period of time is a great blessing. It allows me to see things in God’s Word in a fresh way and to make connections between various Bible verses that add depth to what I teach and preach.
Another blessing is the difference it makes in my walk with Jesus. As a preacher, I can’t feed God’s people if I’m not allowing God to feed me. Keeping my soul healthy is not just a priority, it is essential.
I appreciate the support of my church family in Rock Hill. Not every Pastor has the opportunity to do what I’m doing this week – though all preachers need it. Please pray for me as I spend the rest of this week in His Word.
I look forward to being with you Sunday and preaching God’s Holy Word. I’m also looking forward to the Neighborhood Blitz Sunday afternoon.
