Yesterday we hosted the 19th Annual Police Honor and Memorial Service luncheon attended by a large crowd of law enforcement officials from several departments and agencies (pictures below). The purpose is to honor the memory of the nine officers who have died in the line of duty in York County over the years and let their families know they are not forgotten. In addition to scripture and prayer, there is a speaker, 21-Gun Salute, playing of taps, a reading of the names of the slain officers, the presentation of a wreath and flowers to the slain officers’ families, and a lot of fellowship. It’s a privilege for us to support these men and women by hosting this annual event. A large number of FBC staff and volunteers from our kitchen and media ministries work together to make the day a success.
The nine officers remembered yesterday made the ultimate sacrifice and remembering them is the right thing to do. It also inspires us – the living.
The greatest sacrifice ever made for a human being was made by Jesus on the cross. Before He died He gave us the memorial He wanted us to use to remember Him and His sacrifice. It’s called the Lord’s Supper.
We will gather this coming Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm in the worship center at FBC to observe the Lord’s Supper and remember Jesus’ sacrifice on our behalf. I encourage you to attend. It is the right thing to do and it will be inspiring as we observe the supper in a unique and special way. Small groups of 8-10 people will gather with one of our pastors around a table and take the supper together using a common loaf. This is a great opportunity for families to observe the Supper and experience worship together. I’m looking forward to it and pray you are as well.
