Our grandson, Liam, was in town this past weekend for Mother’s Day. Jacqueline and Evan were here too, but most of you know how grandparents are. We’re always glad to see our kids, but we’re really glad to see our kid’s kids. Liam is now two and a lot of fun.
When they were leaving Sunday he kept saying, “Bye Nana. Bye Pa. Bye Nana. Bye Pa.” Over and over and over…it was all I could do not to cry.
Monieca will see him again next weekend and I’ll see him again in two weeks, so it’s not like we’re saying goodbye for a long time. But man….
I can only imagine God’s grief when people He loves say “goodbye” and walk away from Him. God’s love for every person in this world is greater than my love for Liam, and most of them never pay Him any attention. Even those of us who are Christians often act like He doesn’t exist. I’m sure there are times He feels like crying.
I sometimes wonder what it will be like for God when He tells the lost on Judgment Day, “Depart from Me…I never knew you.”
I can’t help but wonder why we who are saved often seem to care so little about the lost and shed so few tears over them in prayer. I wonder what God thinks about our lack of sorrow.
