Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:

Reflective Reading: Read Deuteronomy 31:12-13 thoughtfully:

12 Assemble the people—men, women and children, and the foreigners residing in your towns—so they can listen and learn to fear the LORD your God and follow carefully all the words of this law. 13 Their children, who do not know this law, must hear it and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the Promised Land.”

Meditation: Reflect on Moses’ encouragement for God’s people to assemble together to listen and learn of the Lord. What is God speaking to you through this passage? What specific challenge does Moses give in verse 13?

Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:

Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate this passage and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:

  • How faithful are you in assembling together with God’s people? Are you committed to routine assembly with God’s people, or do you allow other things to take priority?
  • In the last 52 weeks of ‘assemblies’ here at First Baptist how many weeks have you attended?
  • How important is it for our children to assemble? Are we as serious about our children’s spiritual development as those that gather across Dave Lyle Boulevard are about soccer development?
  • How often do you bring the ‘foreigners residing in your town’ to our assembly here at First Baptist?
  • What actions might this passage be directing you to begin?
