For the second time in a week I’m feeling soreness in muscles I don’t normally use. Yesterday was my day off and I spent most of it planting flowers with Monieca and digging holes in what we call dirt in Rock Hill to plant a few flowering shrubs. Don’t get me wrong – I like flowers and enjoyed do this. But it’s not something I do all the time and this morning my body is reminding of that fact. In the end I’m glad I did it and I’ll enjoy the fruit of that effort just like I’ll enjoy the fruit of the tomato plants I planted previously.

At first it may seem silly for me to compare this experience to praying, but I think for many of us the comparison is appropriate. We want to pray more but don’t do it. When we try, sometimes it hurts. Not because praying is bad. It hurts because we’re not used to doing it and our “prayer muscles” aren’t quite in shape. So we struggle and often give up.

I want you to do something that will help those prayer muscles be fit for praying. Come to the Prayer Workshop I’m leading this Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the worship center. This will not be teaching on why you should pray. It will be practical instruction on how to pray.

I want praying to be meaningful and fun and powerful and transforming in your life. I want to help you. I hope you’ll join me Wednesday night.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
