Silence: Find a quiet place, remove potential distractions, clear your mind of other thoughts, and ask God to speak to you as you read and contemplate this passage:
Reflective Reading: Read Hebrews 10: 24-25 thoughtfully:
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another-and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Meditation: Reflect on this encouragement to the Hebrew Christians (converted Jews) to encourage or ‘spur one another on’ to ‘good deeds’. What is God speaking to you through this exchange?
Oration: From your reading and prayer, verbalize or write in the space below your response to what God is speaking to you from this passage:
Contemplation: Over the next day, contemplate this passage and what God is saying to you. Think on these topics:
- How strong is your encouragement to other Christians to do good deeds? How strong is your personal motivation to do good deeds?
- Have you ever avoided a special service or study or alter call because you were concerned that your participation may lead to a deeper involvement or commitment?
- What happens when you spur a horse? Have you ever been so motivated to do God’s work that you felt you had been spurred? If so, recall that time and motivation – ask God to rekindle that ‘spur’. If not, explore what might be ‘hindering’ you from action.
- What actions or attitudes might this passage be directing you to begin?
