Today we woke up early to go to Barbercou to pass out beans and rice and to spend time with the kids. Since I have multiple ear piercings the girls kept looking at them and one even asked for them. Later I took my hair out of my bun because the girls around me had done the same. The kids had a field day as they attempted to comb their fingers through it.

Later in the day we had a hot dog party where we passed out hot dogs to the kids playing n the yard where we are staying. Music was playing and the song “Cornerstone” came on. The lyrics “He is Lord, Lord of all” sent goosebumps all over my body in the 95 degree heat as I watched the kids running around the yard with the mountains behind them.

Despite the huge culture and language barriers that make us so different from the Haitians we have one thing in common that will never change: God is the Lord of us all. All that gives me a new perspective; maybe we are not so different after all.
